As the name suggests, the goal of preventative dentistry is the prevention of cavities, gum disease, and other oral health issues. Part of your preventative dentistry routine should include twice yearly visits to our Calgary dentist for thorough teeth cleanings and examinations, but truly preventing dental issues will require a daily oral hygiene routine as well.
Caring for Your Teeth at Home
To properly care for your teeth at home:
- Brush – after every meal and snack, bush your teeth with a soft bristled toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste
- Floss – at least once a day, floss your teeth before you brush
- Snack healthy – avoid sugary foods and beverages and choose complex carbohydrates over simple carbs for snacks
Preventative dentistry really is that simple. In less than a combined ten minutes a day, you can help keep your teeth and gums optimally healthy. Completing your at-home routine with biannual visits to our Calgary office can ensure a strong, healthy, and attractive smile for years to come.
