Sleep apnea, a disorder that affects thousands of restless sleepers in Calgary, has been linked to a myriad of related health issues, including diabetes, stroke and cardiovascular disease. Since the symptoms of this dangerous affliction arise during slumber, many who suffer from sleep apnea don’t even realize it.

Sleep apnea is a condition that causes brief pauses in breathing during sleep. These gaps of breathing can last up to 30 seconds, and may occur dozens - or hundreds - of times every night. Chronic snoring is a leading indicator of the condition, and many sufferers learn of their erratic sleep patterns from co-sleepers.

Ask yourself the following questions if you suspect you may have sleep apnea:

  • Does my snoring wake up other people in the house?
  • Do I awaken in the night gasping for breath?
  • Am I overly tired throughout the day?
  • Do I fall asleep at unusual times during the day?
  • Do I awaken in the morning with a sore throat, dry mouth or headache?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, you should contact Dr. Gordon Chee at Aesthetic Dental Studio to learn more about your symptoms. Although Dr. Chee cannot legally diagnose your sleep apnea, he can perform a thorough oral evaluation and help you determine which snoring treatment or other procedure can best address your symptoms.
