Gum disease is caused by plaque buildup on your teeth ande gums. It starts as gingivitis. A symptom of gingivitis is gums which bleed, especially during cleaning or flossing. If this condition is left to progress without treatment it will become periodontitis, that is, infection of the gums and jawbone.

All is not lost, however. There are steps you can take to prevent gum disease.

  • Practice excellent home oral hygiene in the form of brushing and flossing at least once a day.
  • Visit us every six months (or more frequently if necessary) to get a professional cleaning and check up.

Not only will these steps help you prevent gum disease, they may even reverse early stages of the disease. If necessary, we can give you laser gum therapy, using a laser to disinfect the gums and minimize any chance of infection.
