The Science of PPM™
While PPM™ is designed as a performance and safety aid for athletes, the principles it is based on have their roots in neuromuscular dentistry. This branch of dentistry looks at the way the teeth, the jaw, and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are positioned. The lower jaw is misaligned in most of the population. This puts strain on the muscles and the TMJ, which affects your posture. This strain is found in the face, neck and shoulder muscles and saps energy from the rest of your body, leading your body to use up more energy than it would if you were feeling your absolute best. But when your jaw is in alignment, your jaw muscles and your spine are more relaxed. Upper body strength is improved and overall flexibility and balance increases.
Each PPM™ is custom-made and fitted by your dentists. The dentists at Aesthetic Dental Studio use the same kind of procedure for assessing TMJ disorders as they use to fit your PPM. This involves using jaw tracking or the Transcutaneous Electro Neural Stimulator (TENS) machine.

The PPM™ Process
The dentists at Aesthetic Dental Studio are certified neuromuscular dentists, and are able to fit your PPM™ by determining the best possible position your jaw needs to be in so you can perform at your absolute best, no matter what kind of an athlete you are. The TENS machine used during your evaluation will discover where your bite should be. For most people, it is in a forward and down position to release tension in your face, neck, and shoulders. This will also allow your airway to open further to improve oxygen intake. It further improves alignment in your back, which will help your muscles.
After recording your bite position, impressions are taken of your teeth. It will take a week for the creation of your PPM™, but on your second visit, you will be fitted to make sure it fits as well as it can. Note that if you are missing teeth, you may not be a candidate for PPM™.
